Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn

This year we are partnering with Land O Lakes® Butter and Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, to create recipes and share tips as part of Land O’Lakes Kitchen Conversations. We are super excited because we love Land O Lakes® Butter and we adore Ree. She is the sweetest gal on the planet. I’ll also be joined by some other wonderful gals: Brenda from A Farmgirl’s Dabbles, Sommer from A Spicy Perspective and Julie from The Little Kitchen.

You can follow all the Kitchen Conversation fun this year through the hashtag #KtchnConvo on Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.

We had our first event in February with a group of food bloggers during an online webinar. We talked about new food trends for 2013. Popcorn is supposed to be the favorite snack of 2013, so we created a savory popcorn recipe, Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn.

Garlic-Rosemary-Parmesan-Popcorn1

We love munching on popcorn so we are thrilled it’s THE snack of 2013. We usually make sweet popcorn recipes-Twix Caramel Popcorn, Biscoff Cookie Popcorn, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Popcorn are a few of our favorites. We decided to mix things up by creating a savory popcorn recipe and I’m so glad we did because this Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn is a new favorite!

Garlic-Rosemary-Parmesan-Popcorn

We used Land O Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt, which comes in half sticks. The pre-measured half sticks are easy-to-use and are individually wrapped to keep the butter tasting fresher longer. And it was the perfect amount of butter for our popcorn recipe.

Garlic-Rosemary-Parmesan-Popcorn4

We melted the Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt in a small pan and added garlic and fresh rosemary. We popped the popcorn on the stove and drizzled it with the garlic rosemary butter. We sprinkled freshly grated Parmesan cheese and a little salt over the popcorn and gave it a good toss.

The popcorn is garlicky, buttery, cheesy, and salty with a nice rosemary flavor. We devoured a bowl of popcorn while we watched a movie. This popcorn is perfect for movie night, game day, parties, or everyday snacking. I think it would also make a great gift. Package it up in a cute bag and pass it out to your friends and family.

Be a trendsetter in 2013 by making Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn. I know we will be making this easy popcorn recipe over and over this year.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter We used 1 half-stick Land 'O Lakes Sea Salt & Olive Oil Butter
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh rosemary
  • 3 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1/3 cup popcorn
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Stir in the garlic and fresh rosemary. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until garlic is lightly browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • To pop the popcorn, heat the canola oil in a 3-quart saucepan on medium high heat. Put a couple popcorn kernels into the oil to see if it is hot enough. If they pop, then it's ready.
  • Add the popcorn kernels in an even layer. Cover the pan with a lid, remove from heat for about 30 seconds. Return the pan to the heat and gently shake the pan by moving it back and forth over the burner. You will hear the popcorn popping. Keep the lid slightly ajar so the steam can escape. If you remove the lid completely, you will have a popcorn mess. When the popcorn is done popping, remove the pan from the heat. Pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
  • Pour the butter, garlic, and rosemary mixture over the popcorn and gently toss. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the warm popcorn. Season with salt, to taste.
  • Note-you can use microwave or air-popped popcorn if you wish.

  161. My mouth was watering when you showed this popcorn on the webinar! I love popcorn and tend to stay with the savory types over sweet!

  162. It used to be plain old buttered popcorn, but I think this one might be my new favorite. Garlic, rosemary, and butter – what’s not to like?

My favorite type is definitely homemade kettle corn, with cinnamon sugar!

( And this has been going on for about 40 years!)

  182. I love homemade caramel corn; my family uses a recipe handed down from a family friend. Thanks for the opportunity to win this popcorn-making kit, it looks fantastic.

  183. I love all things popcorn! I grew up with my dad making fresh popped popcorn in a big heavy pot on the stove. He would melt real butter and pour it over the hot popcorn and then add salt with wild abandon. It tastes better when he makes it. I love flavored popcorn too. At home we will put white cheddar powder on our popcorn or ranch flavoring, we like kettle corn too. It’s our favorite snack to buy at Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City.

  184. My favorite popcorn is when my husband makes it. 🙂 He always gets the right ratio of butter and salt to popcorn. So yummy.

  190. As a lifetime member of Weight watchers, I always look for healthy, filling snacks. I discovered that popcorn is a perfect fit! I have an air popper or I make my own microwave popcorn by using a 1/3 cup of popcorn in a paper lunch bag, tape it shut and lay it down in the microwave. It took a few tests to get the timing down but now it’s almost a daily snack. I spray butter Pam on it and toss with sea salt. If I’m going to the movies (sorry but I do this!), I pop a bag and add either chocolate chips or raisinets to it. Once i added candy corn. It’s such a great treat to have the crunch of popcorn and the chewiness of candy corn or raisinets. I just might pop a bag to have with my sandwich for lunch! I can’t wait to try the savory recipe. Thanks!!

  191. I like homemade kettle corn — popped on the stove with sugar and oil, best. But this garlic popcorn looks amazing. I’m definitely going to be on the hunt for those flavored half sticks too. YUM!

  196. I have started popping my corn in a bag in the microwave and just as it is finished I add a few marshmellows and microwave for about 10 more seconds. After that add the salt and give a shake . You have the popcorn and the sweet and salty combo . It is a guilty pleasure.

  197. My favorite kind of popcorn is Kettle Corn. But once I’ve tried your Garlic Rosemary Parmesan Popcorn recipe, that just may end up being my favorite!

  207. Perfect! I’ve been garnishing with olive oil and rosemary sea salt on my popcorn after popping in a microwave bowl (dry). But that hit of butter is THE ticket.

  213. We love parmesan and butter popcorn. sometimes with a little garlic powder sprinkled over the top

  214. I love buttery popcorn. Most say that is pretty boring, but I think of it as classic. Also, my sister made this white chocolate peppermint popcorn once and it was fantastic! 🙂

  220. My mom always made popcorn on the stovetop with real butter and salt growing up. Hands down that is still my favorite

  221. I love air popped popcorn…the kind that we made when I was a child. When we were kids, Friday nights we got to put the seeds in the machine, butter melted on top while the kernels popped below!! Add a little salt….a voila!! THE BEST!

  222. What a coincidence, I just made “homemade” popcorn today, only I made it simple with olive oil and a little salt. Mmm, I couldn’t stop picking out of the bowl!

  223. I haven’t experimented with popcorn much. Stove-popped with a dash of salt or caramel corn are the usual recipes in our home.

  224. I’m so excited to try this recipe!! I love your blog 🙂 Thank you for all of the hard work that you put in to making our lives better and healthier!!! It would be such a blessing to win this prize!

  225. I love to make Bunny Bait! I first saw it on Christi’s blog, Love From the Oven. I discovered a link to your Facebook page on her FB page.

  226. Follow you on FB. Both of my boys are suddenly on a popcorn kick as an after school snack. After reading that it is the snack of the year, I better stock up. We were making a batch last weekend for movie night and I was explaining how my mom would make caramel popcorn balls and that she would cook the popcorn in a soup pan with oil and shake the pan now and then. Brought me warm fuzzies remembering that. Good luck with the contest. I have fallen in love with the half sticks of butter. Very cute half stick butter dish!

  227. Oops, this has correct email – first one is incorrect!

Kettle corn is my fav, however I’ve never tried to make it myself. Sweet and salty is the best!

  228. I eat a lot of popcorn and my favorite by far is a little butter, a spray of bragg’s liquid aminos, some nutritional yeast and some fresh cracked pepper. So good…

  229. I love sweet popcorn. Years ago I ate some in Argentina for the first time and was blown away. That was before there was Kettle Popcorn on the market. For me having that sensation of expecting salty and getting sweet was one I will never forget.

  233. My favorite popcorn is stove-popped with a little bit of salt and some louisiana hot sauce on it…delicious!

  234. I love super buttery popcorn (I know – not healthy at all!) but I have a feeling I would fall in love with this rosemary popcorn. Rosemary is my favorite herb!

  235. Wow…great minds think alike! I used these same flavors for a popcorn about a month or so ago! I love rosemary and parmesan together. I added some lemon zest too…it makes it really fresh. And I found a really great microwave trick to pop the corn without added fat.

  236. When you pour the butter on the pop corns don’t they get that “wet” look and feel when you eat them? How do you make them stay fluffy?

  237. 3 stars
This was just okay. Couldn’t really taste the garlic or rosemary over the cheese and there’s nothing wrong with cheesy popcorn!

  238. Yum! I added a smidge of freshly cracked black pepper. Trip elevated popcorn and a great way yo use up some of my fresh rosemary plant.
