Green Smoothie Recipe

“Green Monster” Green Smoothie

Yesterday, I did my usual Body Combat workout and came home and made one of my favorite post-workout snacks – a Green Smoothie. I posted the photo on Instagram and got several requests for the recipe. So today I am sharing my favorite Green Smoothie recipe. Some people call the Green Smoothie a Green Monster, but I like to refer to mine as the Green Goblin:) It is an easy green smoothie recipe that is easy to blend up! You only need a few minutes!

My Green Smoothie Recipe

If you haven’t tried healthy green smoothies before, don’t be afraid. I promise it’s so good! Don’t be frightened by the green color or the spinach. You can’t even taste the spinach. It blends right in with the other flavors, you won’t even know it is there. For my green smoothie recipe, I use:

  • orange
  • frozen banana
  • strawberries
  • spinach
  • Greek yogurt
  • splash of almond milk

I like to use frozen fruit so the smoothie will be thick and cold. If you are using fresh fruit, you can add ice to the blender.

I use plain Greek yogurt because I don’t want added sugars in my smoothie. The fruits will give the smoothie plenty of flavor and sweetness. I blend everything together in our blender and it is ready in no time.

If you want to keep the smoothie dairy-free and vegan, you can use all almond milk instead of the Greek yogurt. Almond milk works well too. If I use almond milk, I like to add vanilla protein powder to my smoothie to boost the protein.

You can use kale instead of spinach in this green smoothie recipe.

You can also boost the nutrients by adding in chia seeds, hemp hearts, bee pollen, and ground flaxseed. I will add in a few teaspoons of each.

Healthy Green Smoothies

If you are trying to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet, give this Green Smoothie a go. It is easy to make and is loaded with all kinds of good for you ingredients. I love sipping on a “Green Goblin” after my workouts. This green smoothie recipe is also great for breakfast or a healthy snack. Enjoy!

  1. This looks super yummy. I just wanted to point out that to get the maximum benefit out of a green smoothie (the iron in spinach) you don’t want to combine it with calcium (greek yogurt). The calcium blocks your body’s absorption of the iron. I see some other commenters have suggested almond milk or coconut milk – both good alternatives.

  2. Ohhh.. Why everything looks so yummy? I want to try it all. With glass of juice, please! But if you still don’t have a juicer, just watch this juicer reviews to choose one. Homemade juice is perfect!

  3. Greek yogurt makes the difference! Great recipe! Thanks for sharing) Can I use manual juice press for this recipe, by the way? Or it will screw up the texture of smoothie?

  4. Oh, yea! Right away making this similar smoothie for this morning, but I’ll use kale this time. Nice post!

  5. I have a question about the two cups of spinach: is this measured by weight or by volume? Is the two cups 16 ounces or is it just what fits in a two cup measuring cup? If it is the second one, is the spinach packed into the cup or is it loose fitting, like if you just scooped it out of a bag? Thanks!

  6. Hi Maria and Josh, I was wondering what blender you guys use for your green smoothies? My blender really struggles with the greens like spinach or kale, even if I blend just the green with my coconut water first which is a tip I commonly see. I still get shreds of spinach or kale that I have to chew in my smoothie. I’ve been looking at getting a cheaper refurbished Vitamix but not sure which to get. I’m thinking about the Vitamix 5300 after reading this post https://livingfreshdaily.com/vitamix-5200-vs-5300-which-is-best/ but I wanted to check which blender you guys are using. Your smoothie looks sooo good and smooth compared to what I make now!

  7. I love smoothies, but this Green one is ultimate choice as you included healthy ingredients…. it’s green, tasty and important of healthy life

  8. Wow! it looks lush green and feeling like amazing taste….. Aria Lichty nice recipe and should i try to make it as the way you discuss……?
