His

chickens

1. New chicks! I am so excited to start our flock. I feel like I am in grade school and get to take the class pet home for the weekend. We have to keep them inside for a few weeks until they are ready for their coop. Caleb loves hearing the chirps.

beaver

2. We were just in California for the Big Traveling Potluck and one of our good friends, Ethan, brought Caleb his first piece of Canadian memorabilia. Caleb loves it, even though he calls it a bear. Thanks again Ethan!

2. We went to a Train concert a few weeks ago and shortly after Caleb started saying Gina. We had no clue who Gina was. One day, Train’s song Meet Virginia came on the radio and Caleb got excited and started yelling Gina. We finally figured out Gina was Virginia. Now, we have to listen to that song all of the time. It’s Caleb’s favorite. When we brought the chickens home, Maria asked Caleb what he wanted to name the chickens. He immediately said Gina. It’s hard to believe that our little 19 month old communicates so well, but he sure does. Every day he surprises us even more. We love our little duder.

Hers

1. I am still trying to get caught up from our trip to California. I shared our Beverly Wilshire experience, but I still need to post about The Big Traveling Potluck. I promise it’s coming soon, but I have to tackle the laundry first. Sorry, we need underwear to wear:)

rhubarb

2. If April showers bring May flowers, then why did I wake up to snow on May 1st? Our rhubarb was shivering. Boo hoo!

3. Love this list of processed foods that can be made right at home in your own kitchen!

4. Are you frustrated that Facebook is hiding your favorite pages from you? And if you didn’t know they are doing it, well sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they are. his and hers lunch

6. His and Hers lunch. Guess which one is mine? 🙂

7. Cinco de Mayo is on Sunday which means I can eat all of the chips, guacamole, and salsa I want. I think I will also make my favorite Stacked Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas. Ooh, and maybe Avocado Ice Cream too. Don’t knock it until you try it:) It’s good stuff!

8. 27 Stages of Getting Addicted to a Television Show-this made me laugh. I like being addicted to shows. I am currently in need of a new addiction. I just can’t find a show to feed my addiction. I tried Downton Abbey-boring! I can’t get into vampires and what they write about in their diaries. Freaks and Geeks was funny, but there was only one season. I love House of Cards and Parenthood, but there are no new episodes to watch. So the search is on. Come on television, give me something to be addicted to.

9. Ok, all of you juicers out there, what is your favorite juicer? I want to enter the world of juicing and need a machine to get me going!

10. I am going mad for these muffins.

11. Ladies, all the ladies, what is your favorite foundation? Dudes-I am not talking about concrete foundation, but the make-up kind that you put on your face. I need something with full coverage that doesn’t look cakey. Any suggestions?

12. I know we have been overloading you with sugar this week, but we have to since it’s Salted Caramel Week. If you need a break from brownies and macaroons, head on over to Wayfair for an Easy Vegetable Noodle Stir-Fry Recipe. It’s a good one!

  1. I adore that yall got chicks! Too cute. That story about caleb in gina is awesome. Maria o use bare minerals!

  2. I love Bobbi Brown’s even finish compact foundation. It’s amazing. Full coverage, but not at all cakey.

  3. Ohhhhhhh the chicks are so cute! I am so jealous! I want some chicks!!

  4. Love the chicks! I use Bare minerals too, sofar the best I’ve ever tried and the only one that suits my very sensitive and dry skin!

  5. You could try Call the Midwife. I like it better than Downton Abbey and it has a lot of cute babies.

  6. TV show: Try Weeds – all the seasons are on Netflix.

Foundation: Arbonne. I just recently discovered how amazing this foundation is. It’s lightweight with amazing coverage. Pair it with the foundation, and you won’t be disappointed.

  7. Caleb is just too cute!!

for the foundation – I have been wearing mineral foundation for a few years and love it, but I recently did a post for COVERGIRL® Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation and I have to say, even after my post, I still find myself grabbing that bottle most days when I put on my make up.

I had not worn liquid foundation in a long time and thought it would be cakey, but it’s not! I can use very little, and get nice coverage.

  8. Try Burn Notice? White Collar? Both are in Netflix. 🙂 if you like Scifi stuff, try Firefly.

  9. I’ve heard good things about the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation. It’s buildable with medium to full coverage but lighter on the skin.
That being said, I love my Dr. Jart Black Label Detox BB cream I got after a sample from Birchbox. Again, has very buildable coverage but feels great on the skin. Not heavy or cakey.

  10. I just love your Thursday posts, and seeing pictures of Caleb. He has grown so much! As for tv shows, I’m not a big tv watcher, but I do love Homeland. I just got caught up on the first few seasons and cannot wait for the next one to start!
And for foundation, I have been using bare minerals the last few years. I have very dry and sensitive skin and it is the only one that I’ve tried that doesn’t irritate.

  11. Aww baby chicks. I look at them and the baby ducks every time I go to tractor supply to get dog food. To bad I live in a HOA neighborhood 🙁

I can not get over that it is so cold and snowing up north in May. It is so crazy. We are in the upper 60’s right now which is nuts for May in FL.

I am also on the hunt for a foundation that covers but does not break me out. I got a sample of Urban Decay Naked skin at Ulta which is really good but pricey. I also have tried the dupe for UD which is Revlon Nearly Naked, it is okay but I think Naked skin is better. My next try will be Tarte Amazonian clay 12 hour full coverage foundation that everyone seems to love, but again pricey so I will be getting another sample before I shell out the big bucks 😉

  12. Almost forgot Dr. Jart BB black label is awesome full coverage for a BB cream. I absolutely love it.

  13. I love ColorScience pressed mineral foundation. I use foundation every day, so I feel like I’ve tried many. This one provides great coverage, yet is light and natural looking.

  14. Maria – I know you are a big fan of Friday Night Lights. I just heard that they are considering making a movie. Had you heard that? So excited!

    1. I REALLY hope they do a movie. And I hope it is all the original cast-especially Tim Riggins. Swoon!

  15. I love the pressed mineral foundations from MAC. I’ve been using it for years and it gives great coverage and is very light…definitely not cakey 🙂

  16. Love getting addicted to a TV show, ever since I spent my high school year in South Jordan, UT with 4 (!!!) host-sisters, I am all about American TV Shows (7th Heaven was my favorite plus Felicity plus Jack and Jill, if only anyone remebers that show…) Have you ever tried “Hart of Dixie”? I love it. Rachel Bilson is dramatic, crazy and adorable at the same time. Plus I love me some good country music 🙂

  17. Oooh, I cant wait to make some of those processed turned homemade stuff! I use Bare Minerals powder foundation and it is my favorite. I used another for a long time, and I just recently switched to Bare Minerals and wish I would have done it sooner!

  18. I’m a new convert to the Bare Minerals craze. Very natural-looking, and still has spf.
Also thinking about getting a juicer. Can’t wait to hear what you decide on!

  19. I’ve heard great things about Loreal True Match, I’ve seen some example pictures of faces with one side with it on, one side without it and it’s amazing how much it really does match the skin. I use Lancome Color Ideal and I find it great and very very lightweight. Best thing is it blends so well!

I have the Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain and love it.

  20. On Netflix I’m addicted to Sherlock (British, but not boring), Arrested Development (hilarious) and just started watching Brother’s and Sisters

  21. I agree with others about Bare Minerals. I was never a foundation wearer until I had a baby and the lack of sleep gave me dark circles under my eyes. I think it’s the best. Plus you can use a 20% off coupon at Ulta to buy it. Also it’s natural and if I don’t wash my face before bed its not going to make my face break out.
I have the jack lalane pro juicer and i like it but I wish I would have bought the breville juicer so I could juice softer fruit.

  22. I like bare minerals foundation! it has great coverage and I can’t even feel it on my face

  23. I have an Omega J8006 juicer and absolutely love it. I know the Breville juicers are trendy, but I would not trade my Omega for the world. It does so much more than just juicing, but it’s an amazing juicer too.

  24. Oh I’m SO addicted to “Scandal” and “Revenge” it’s just pitiful! I am so so excited about Avocado season and cinco!

oh- and I started selling Aloette cosmetics lately, I’ve been using their organic aloe vera based, natural products for about 12 years.
They have a PRESSED mineral makeup- it doesn’t go everywhere when you apply it. It’s concealer, foundation, sunscreen and powder all in one and you cannot feel it but coverage is awesome! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kim-Rosa-Aloette-Skin-Care-and-Cosmetics-Consultant/407134636040574?ref=hl

  25. Bobbi Brown has great makeup. I really like her foundation that comes in a compact that you apply with a brush. Put on as little or much as you need – the under eye concealers are fantastic, too. Very inspired by your chickens! I’m eager to begin a flock of our own. You’ll have to share what breed you chose. Have a great day!

  26. I agree that Call The Midwife on PBS is addicting! Watch the 1st season on ITunes and then the 2nd season is On Demand and on Sunday nights!

  27. Veronica Mars, NCIS, White Collar, The Closer for TV shows 🙂
And I’m a big fan of Mary Kay full coverage foundation – it’s great with more sensitive skin, stays put and is not priced sky high.

  28. Chickens?! You guys are brave!!
Also, foundation.. I switch between Bare Minerals and Make Up Forever.
Or I just use Dr. Jardt BB cream when I want light coverage 🙂

    1. Caleb is so excited about the chickens! Thanks for the foundation suggestions!

  29. I just tried for the first time las night Mary Kay mineral foundation AND I LOVED it!!!! I had to buy it. It felt so light and covered so well I was VERY impressed!!! I have very oily skin and today is my first day wearing it all day so I will see how it goes today 🙂 but so far so good and I live in the central time zone so I’ve had it on for 3 hours

  30. Maria,
We got 8 chicks last year. They’ll be a year on May 9. They are so cute when they’re little. Congrats on your new brood.
    Annamaria

  31. I can’t believe you guys got six chickens! You are going to be drowning in eggs. I can’t wait to see all the custard and fritata recipes.

  32. Adore pictures of Caleb, which I always say. Loved the story about the Train song. Smart kid, I love it as well. He’s the most sophisticated toddler I’ve ever seen. My kids got to travel a lot because I worked as a roadie when they were small and it’s amazing how cosmopolitian they became at an early age. They’re in their 30’s now and sometimes their memories of their early life really blow me away.

  33. I use liquid foundation as my concealer for red spots and blemishes and then set it with powder. Bare minerals is the best powder/loose foundation that I have ever tried. Clinique makes the best and lightest liquid foundation. If you’re prone to redness like I am, I HIGHLY recommend the ‘Redness Solutions’ liquid foundation. People used to ask me if I was wearing blush (and I never do) and now I can conceal the redness and apply a more appealing bronzer.
