It’s This and That time! Happy Thursday!

His

1. One thing I have grown to despise about traveling is the TSA. I have a story for you about our recent travel through Kansas City. We were flying home from KC and our bag was checked by security after we checked it in. They took one of my running shoes out and forgot to put it back in. Grrrr! The shoes were not as important as the custom orthotics that were in them. The good news is they found it and said they are shipping it to us. The bad news is I have been training for a triathlon and needed shoes ASAP because I couldn’t stop the training. I could not wait for my usual pick of black running shoes because no one seemed to have any in my size. So I ended up with these flashy neon shoes. All of you who know me know that I’m all about the flash and color. I’m just not all about it on my shoes because they end up so grungy. I am now a part of the neon running shoe trend.

2. As mentioned above, I am competing in an Olympic triathlon on Saturday. My last one was 9 years ago so I am a little out of practice. If you have any recommendations on what I should eat for dinner the night before and for breakfast the day of the tri leave a comment below. Thanks!

3. My Mom is flying in today from California! Yeah! We can’t wait to see her. Caleb is extra excited. My mom is one of the best women I know and any one who has met her would say the same.

Hers

1. Caleb and I usually go on 3-4 walks a day. On one of our walks, we like to stop by the thrift store to shop for blog props. The other day I found a handful of things for under $5. Josh always rolls his eyes when I show him my fun finds. He doesn’t think I need anymore dishes…but I do! I can’t turn away such good bargains! The props are begging for a good home:)

2. I might pretend it is my birthday so I can make this cake. What? You know you want a slice too? I don’t need presents, just the cake:)

3. We are loving summer nights at the park. Clothes are optional for Sir Caleb:)

4. My latest obsession is sparkling water. I didn’t used to like it, but now I can’t get enough. I have been using our Soda Stream like crazy! I love the fancy fizz! Sometimes I go wild and add a lemon or lime.

5. Cutest baby shoes EVER!

6. The 4th of July is next week. I am already dreaming about our special breakfast. If you are looking for patriotic inspiration, check out my Red, White & Blue Board on Pinterest. Lots of good stuff!

7. I could use a scoop of this ice cream right now! Ok, I lied…I want two scoops:)

8. And maybe Josh is right, I don’t NEED anymore dishes/props, but I sure want them:) And this is only a glimpse of my collection! And I guess it is time I do some organizing. Sigh.

  1. I just bought a cabinet for props and posted about it. It has CHANGED MY LIFE!! Seriously I am soooo happy about it. Sorry to scream, but just so organized that I could…scream 🙂

And TSA. Don’t.even.get.me.started. Sorry about your shoes!

  2. I would love a couple of slices of that cake too! Good luck to Josh in his triathlon and I’m glad my prop cabinet isn’t the only one that needs some organization!

  3. Wow, that’s an impressive prop cabinet! I wish there was a good thrift store by me to look for treasures 🙂 Good luck to Josh this weekend!

  4. Not Mexican the nite before a tri as I did or a huge bowl of cherries the nite before a marathon as one of my girlfriends did, but something mild that you eat often and have no known digestive qualms with. Lesson learned. 🙂 I skip breakfast (and try to sleep as late as possible) before events and rely on liquid nutrition during (perpetuem or accelerade or gels), but if you’ve been eating solid food before your training with no problems then just keep doing what works! The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to NOT switch up anything from training to race day. Not the time to experiment. Be sure to post about your Olympic Tri experience!

  5. Josh! I’m so glad they found your shoe! Good luck this weekend

Maria- yayyyyy for walks 🙂 The best. I am going to check out your pinterest board now. I think someone should buy both our kids those shoes.

  6. You two are so cute!!! I love your dish collection too! I keep trying to pare mine down, but somehow it just keeps growing. 🙂

  7. Love your prop storage, mine looks very similar. And I don’t really think you can ever have too many plates of a single style or color. My husband secretly loves it, I am sure of it!

  8. Oh, don’t even get me started on TSA! As someone who travels quite frequently for work, believing TSA has any sort of positive influence on our safety is like believing in the Easter Bunny, tooth fairy and Santa Claus when you’re 40.

  9. I am recently ADDICTED to buying more dishes and props.. it’s being an obsession. My cupboards will soon enough look like yours Maria!

  10. Oh no about TSA! I can’t even begin to wonder how you would even contact them. I can’t believe they forgot to put your shoe back. 🙁

And Maria, you can never have too many props. That’s what I say. I love Naomi’s cake too…

  11. Love this post! It’s always nice to see the otherside of bloggers outside of food. Caleb is adorable and getting so big.

btw – I”m exactly the same, I can’t help picking up food prop items.

  12. Josh – it’s been a while since I did an Olympic distance triathlon, but I do sprints regularly. I actually like to each sushi the night before a race. It probably sounds weird, but you have protein from the fish, carbs from the rice and then you throw in some ginger to settle your stomach. On race day, I just eat cereal when I wake up and then consume gels/Gatorade before and during the race. Good luck!!

  13. A few guidelines I follow before tri race day:

    1) Don’t eat or drink anything I’ve never done during my training.
    2) Dairy upsets my stomach so I don’t have any the night before or in my breakfast.
    3) A typical pre-race dinner = salmon, quinoa, lots of veggies for carbs, and a greens salad.
    4) A typical pre-race breakfast = banana, peanut butter on ww toast drizzled with honey, oatmeal made with almond milk or water, other assorted fruits like berries

Good luck and most importantly, have a blast!! 🙂

  14. I love getting a glimpse into some of your props! Also those shoes… wow. lol I’m glad they weren’t truly by choice 😉

  15. Haha I agree! You can never have too many props 🙂 You never know when you will need what prop, so may as well have enough 😉

  16. My boyfriend and roommates have given up and me and props. It’s an addiction. A serious one. Josh should eat pasta the night before! But nothing too heavy…caprese or just plain old tomato sauce with basil!

  17. Josh, I feel your pain. I loathe the TSA and neon running shoes. Good luck with your triathalon! I only recently started running. I cant even imagine tackling a triathalon. I’ll be happy once I accomplish a 5K 🙂 Maria, I want that cake!! And I need a cabinet for props. My laundry room is overrun and I only have a small collection so far.

  18. Thanks so much for the link to my ice cream! I know you’d definitely love it!

  19. What thrift store do you shop at? The DI closest to me isn’t that great. I loved the one in American Fork, but it’s too far to drive to just to shop for props! 🙂
