Today is our 4 year wedding anniversary! Happy Anniversary to us! I think we are supposed to get each other fruit or flowers. At least that is what the internet told me:) Good thing we just bought a giant watermelon:) We celebrate our love and marriage every day so we don’t have any special plans for today. We just love being together with our little pea! Cheers to 4 years!

Ok, now on to This and That. Enjoy!

His

1. Maria and I don’t watch much TV. Although, we do rent movies. Let me give you an example of how these nights go. We lay down on the couch to watch the movie and almost immediately Maria is complaining that it’s too loud. She wants me to turn the sound down to almost a mute level. I don’t think she plans on watching the movies because she never stays awake for more than 20 minutes. We basically rent movies for Maria to sleep through and for me to watch on mute.  This week “we”,  meaning I, watched Man on a Ledge. I liked it, at least what I could put together without hearing.

2. I have been training for a triathlon and I am on a 30 day training program. This is NOT recommended and my 35 year old, almost decrepit body, has been paying the price. I could barely walk yesterday. But I’m going to do this. I will let you know if I am still alive after June 30. I just got this thing called “The Stick.” It has been pretty good on helping my leg muscles.

3. While in Seattle, I was able to spend 120 straight hours with my little buddy, Caleb. He is so awesome! We ha a great time and it was hard for me to go back to work this week. Caleb is one righteous dude!

Hers

1. My baking drawer is a little out of control. Ok, it’s a complete disaster. I think I need to do some organizing this weekend.

2. So remember that book I was going to read on the plane? Yeah, I never even opened it. Traveling with a baby is a lot different.

3. My grandma and dad have a few hand written recipes that I need to preserve. I love this DIY tutorial for framing recipes.

4. I can’t get enough of these cookies. I made another batch this week and put them in the freezer. I love eating them frozen-who needs popsicles when you have frozen cookies? 🙂

5. Love these Watermelon and Feta Bites. Going to make them this weekend.

6. We are shopping for a baby trailer for our bikes. Any recommendations? We need to get one ASAP so Caleb can go on some summer bike rides!

7. Oh-and it’s Father’s Day on Sunday. Don’t forget to spoil your dad! Caleb and I will be making Josh one of his favorite breakfasts-Cinnamon Streusel Pancakes!

  1. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! How awesome. Um…I totally fall asleep every time we put a movie in. Being a Mom makes you extra exhausted (…although I think I used to fall asleep before I was a Mom too haha)

  2. Happy Anniversary!!!!! So happy for you two and now you have Caleb 🙂

And your baking drawer…my stuff is in a pantry and it’s totally smooshed in. I love your drawer though. I want a drawer not a pantry now that I see yours. And I like the sound on my TV super low, too.

  3. Happy Anniversary 🙂

I fall asleep as soon as I lie down on the couch the only way to stay awake is to sit upright 🙂 also I demand my Matt turn down the volume especially if our little one has just gone to sleep we’re always battling over the controller.

  4. Haha my husband would say the same thing about when we watch movies. Happy anniversary:-)

  5. We have the bike Chariot, and really like it. We use it all the time for biking, and it transforms easily into a stroller, which is great. Make sure to get the baby insert!

  6. I had heard about The Stick before.. but had put that way back in the memory bank… just went to their website and I will be ordering one!! No, I’m not a runner, or any type of athlete (too arthritic for that) but I do ride my bike on my good days and I hike to waterfalls quite often. I hope that The Stick will help with the muscle cramps. I have RA and Osteo, have had 1 knee replacement and 90% of my major bones have been broken so arthritis is a daily visitor.
Love your blog, Caleb is precious, so fun to watch him grow through your pictures.

  7. Happy Anniversary!!

We also have our wedding anniversary today 🙂 We are together for 9 years 🙂

  8. Happy Anniversary!!
And yes, you should try feta with watermelon, even without fancy styling, because the combination is awesome!

  9. Such a sweet post — happy anniversary to you and Josh! Those summer bike rides with Caleb in tow will be so much fun 🙂

  10. I need to do that with a few of my recipes!! Happy anniversary to you & Josh!

  11. Happy Anniversary! You two are so cute…Josh should try using a foam roller too – way more effective than the stick!

  12. His: gotta say I laughed at the movie thing we are the same way (and have been for the 15 years we’ve been married) I fall asleep with in 20 minutes and tell him the tv is too loud all the time 🙂

Good luck on your triathlon I admire anyone who does these they are major work and dedication! 🙂

    Happy Fathers Day early!!!

Hers: wow I want your baking drawer! my husband just got me the cutest and coolest amish made pantry or cupboard which ever you want to call a free standing kitchen storage made of solid wood :). Now I’m organized, we will see how long that last I give it a month.

I love the idea of preserving old family recipes! they are usually the best recipes full of yummy ingredients we all try to avoid now. How is it that they ate the way they did and still lived long in years. I think its because they didn’t sit as much as we do now all plugged in they got out and worked hard!

Love your this and that post! this is one of my first comments I think 🙂

  13. Happy Anniversary! The hubs and I are getting ready to have our 5th. Although it took us a few minutes to figure that out, lol. “This year is our 4th…no wait, our 5th…no…yes, definitely our 5th.” We both remember the day but always forget the year. Pretty sad, eh? heheh

Hope you have a great one!

  14. We have te Schwinn bike trailer. It rides great but isn’t ideal for two kiddos. Worked great with just one but they are a little smooshed now that there is two. So I guess my only recommendation would be to look for something that easily fits two…if you ever plan on having more than one in there at a time. 🙂

  15. happy anniversary! what a fun post. We just had our anniversary last month – 4 years as well! Such a happy time 🙂

  16. Josh is HEE-larious. I can totally hear his voice saying those words now that I’ve met him.

See you in a few daaaays!

  17. Happy Anniversary! We got the In-Step Take 2 Double bike trailer… because it was cheap and fit two 🙂 But they have no complaints and it’s super easy to attach and pull!
And I think we bought it for ourselves for our anniversary! 🙂

  18. Hello and Happy Anniversary! To start, I recently found you and I love your blog and all the yummy food! I also really appreciate that you have nice printable versions of your recipes. You have no idea how many people out there do not and it’s so difficult to print their recipes. This is going to be a completely off the wall question, but I noticed you have a container of ‘marshmallow bits’ in your baking drawer. I have been looking for those for a while now and can’t seem to find them anyware. My local Target, Amazon, Walmart, local grocery stores don’t carry them….any tips?
    Enjoy celebrating your special day!

    1. Hi Erin-thanks for your kind comment. I buy the bits at Target. Weird your store doesn’t carry them. Maybe ask and they can get them in! Have a great day!

  19. Josh- you’re too funny! I always fall asleep too. ps- P worked on Man on a Ledge- how was it? Maria- my baking drawer looks the same. We should do a cleaning party!

    1. Josh liked the movie. I only saw the first 20 minutes:) Yes, let’s do a cleaning party! And a baking and park party too:)

  20. Congratulations! I pray you have many many more years of wedded bliss filled with multiple joys and blessings to last a lifetime!

  21. Josh-that stick and I have a serious love/hate relationship. Sometimes I have stare downs with it. But it really does help calf/shin soreness. Good luck with your training!

  22. josh-the stick and I have a love/hate relationship. I frequently stare it down before giving in. But it does wonders for your sore calves/shins. Good luck with training!

  23. i’m dying about the movie thing – i’m totally the same Maria! nate gets so mad when i make him rent a chick flick only to fall asleep after the opening credits. oops 🙂

  24. Haha – I wonder if the tv being loud is a guy thing. When my Josh leaves the room, I always sneak over and turn the volume down. He always listens to it much louder than I think it needs to be!

    Happy Anniversary!

  25. Happy anniversary! You are such a darling family.

Enjoy the watermelon feta bites – I hope you like them!

P.S. My baking drawer looks like that too… fine it’s my whole pantry that looks like that 🙂

  26. We have the Croozer and love it! It’s bike trailer, jogger, and regular stroller. Plus it has extra room for storage. Our son is 12 months and loves riding around. Thanks for all the great recipes!

  27. Whoa, your anniversary is the day after mine (which is also my sil’s anniversary). Happy Anniversary! Glad you get to share it with Caleb and a giant watermelon 🙂

  28. Your wedding dress was absolutely GORGEOUS! I love everything about it! Happy anniversary 🙂

  29. My sis-in-law has the Chariot and I’ve used it a couple times. It’s seriously nice because you can not only use it for biking, but just to push as an exercise stroller. There is enough room for two in there, which is also a bonus! 😉

  30. We have a burley bike trailer. Caleb may be too young, but it’s awesome. This summer we’re all on bikes, but I may still use it to cart all of our stuff to the beach.

  31. We own a Bell bicycle trailer and LOVE it. It easily converts into a stroller, and is rated to carry up to 100 pounds. When our son was younger, he referred to it as the “Bicycle Dump Truck”. My husband hitched it onto the back of his bike. It has a safety latch, should the main part ever come detached from the bike. Most of the time, however, we used it as a stroller for long walks around our neighborhood. My son could bring along his blankie, a stuffed animal, and snacks, and not feel the least bit crowded in it! We got the Bell for a STEAL one day at Toys R Us. My husband asked if they had any more in the back, and an associate literally found it hanging in the rafters. It pays to ask for clearance items!

  32. Happy Anniversary! What a beautiful wedding picture… I love your dress. 🙂

To Josh: I fall asleep in the middle of movies too and so my boyfriend has taken to watching movies on “mute” with subtitles (even for American movies), but now, he found out something that worked even better: headphones!

  33. Happy Anniversary! My husband definitely likes the TV much louder than I do also. I blame all his rock concerts from his younger days. And I always fall asleep during movies too. Almost without fail. That never happened before I had kids.

  34. We have a Schwinn bike trailer. It seats two kids, and has a small cargo area in the back. It retails for about $120, but is a more comfortable ride, according to our son than the rather pricey Burley we used to have. It also comes with a conversion wheel so that you can use it as a stroller when you reach your destination. We love it!

  35. Love the blog and post. I have read your “airplane” book and loved it. I think there is a sequel.
    Happy Anniversary!

  36. Congrats guys!! And Josh, the stick is amazing! I’ve had mine for going on 14 years (wow, that ages me!) and besides for my stretching rope I think it’s the best thing ever!

  37. Happy Anniversary! Those Cinnamon Streusel Pancakes sound like a delicious Father’s Day treat!

  38. Those cinnamon struesel pancakes look to die for! So delish! Love Caleb in those glasses 🙂

  39. Happy Anniversay… my husband and I are celebrating 4year today as well…Great day..June 14, 2008!!!

  40. Happy anniversary! Congratulations on four years of happy marriage. 🙂

  41. We bought a cheap trailer at a garage sale and used it into the ground. After that I researched a TON and we bought a Burley last year. It is AWESOME. Seriously, the kids love the comfort (they started complaining with the old one), it easily fits two and has some extra storage options that we have loved. We got one that is a jogger and a bike trailer. It is totally worth the money to get one and definitly get something that fits two. Good luck!

  42. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY you two! LOL on the movie thing. Good luck on the training!

Wow, those frames are an awesome idea. i love it!

  43. Happy anniversary! I love the idea of framing recipes. Utilitarian and decorative all in one 🙂

  44. We have a Chariot bike trailer and love it. Our boys are big enough to ride their own bikes now but they spent many hours in it when they were little. We used the stroller attachment a lot too. The kids are totally protected from the weather while riding. You can also get a cross country ski attachment so it is very versatile. I love your blog! We are vegetarian so your recipes are great for us. I also like to bake so your cookie recipes are wonderful! Keep up the great work!
