These Puppy Chow Marshmallow Treats are a fun twist on classic puppy chow and marshmallow cereal treats. Made with chocolate, peanut butter, Rice Chex cereal, and plenty of marshmallows, these no-bake bars are sweet, chewy, crunchy, and always a crowd favorite.
Prepare the Pan: Line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides. Lightly grease the parchment paper.
Melt the Chocolate Mixture: In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter over low heat, stirring until smooth.
Melt the Marshmallows: Add the 10-ounce bag of mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and flaky sea salt.
Add the Cereal: Gently fold in the Rice Chex cereal until evenly coated.
Stir in Extra Marshmallows: Fold in the remaining 1 cup mini marshmallows.
Press into the Pan: Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and gently press into an even layer. Do not pack it down too firmly.
Dust and Chill: Dust the top generously with confectioners' sugar. Refrigerate until set, about 30 to 60 minutes.
Cut and Serve: Lift the treats out of the pan using the parchment overhang. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
Use regular creamy peanut butter, not natural peanut butter, for the best texture.
Keep the heat low when melting the chocolate, peanut butter, and butter to prevent the mixture from overheating.
Do not skip chilling the treats. Refrigeration helps them set and makes them easier to cut.
Store in the refrigerator so the chocolate coating stays firm and the treats don’t get melty.
