When I was in junior high, I was a candy bar addict. I ate one every single day after school before basketball practice. I don’t know why I thought that was a good idea…the candy bar before practice or me playing basketball, ha! I eventually retired my jersey and stuck to cheerleading. I am much better at yelling from the sidelines:)

Anyways, our junior high office sold candy after school and the second the bell rang, I would race to purchase my candy bar. I was always starving after school. I don’t think my dad knew of my candy addiction. I am sure he thought I was using my money to purchase healthier snacks for practice:) Shhh, let’s not tell him and let’s hope he isn’t reading this.

One of my favorite candy bars was a Whatchamacallit. Do you guys remember those candy bars? I don’t even know if they still make them because I haven’t had one since junior high, but I do remember loving the crispy chocolate peanut butter candy bar. They were so good.

Well, the other day I was flipping through my friend Mary’s new cookbook, The Weeknight Dinner Cookbook, and saw a recipe for Crunchy No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars. I immediately made them because I am a sucker for chocolate and peanut butter and I was hoping they would taste like a Whatchamacallit. Guess what? They DO taste like my favorite candy bar, but I think they are even better! YAY!

Crunchy No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars Recipe

You only need FIVE ingredients to make the bars and I had all of the ingredients in my kitchen. I love that these bars are no-bake! You combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, honey, and butter in a microwave safe bowl and melt. Stir together and add cornflakes. They are the secret ingredient to creating the crisp and crunch!

Chill the bars until solid, but make sure you lick the bowl while they are chilling. You will want a taste of what’s to come:)

Cut into bars and enjoy! The bars will keep in the fridge for up to two weeks. These easy no-bake bars are a great treat to have around at all times. Whenever I need a sweet fix, I can turn to my trusty container of Crunchy No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Bars. They remind me of my good old junior high days! I am so glad I can make my favorite candy bar at home!

Crunchy No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

These no-bake chocolate peanut butter bars are easy to make at home and taste better than any store bought candy bar!

  • cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 3 cups cornflakes


  • Place the chocolate chips, peanut butter, honey and butter in a large glass mixing bowl.
  • Microwave for 2 minutes at full power.
  • Remove from the microwave and stir until the chocolate has completely melted and everything is well combined.
  • Gently stir in the cornflakes. Mix until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture into an 8×8 square baking pan. Smooth the mixture across the pan and refrigerate until firm, at least 2-4 hours.
  • Slice with a sharp knife and store chilled in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.


You can substitute crisp rice cereal for the cornflakes if you wish.

  12. I was so excited for these. They seemed like a great use up of some odds and ends in my pantry, and I loved that they weren’t very difficult or time consuming so my toddler could help. However, I was not a fan. The texture to me was like biting into a stick of butter with cornflakes in it. Even after setting in the refrigerator overnight. I think if I made these again I’d cut back the butter by half. My husband likes them though, so he saved them from going straight in the trash can.

  15. I made these with 70% dark chocolate chips,  crunchy peanut butter and krispies…they are too good. I better give some away. Like to my constantly hungry brother! By they way, grape seed oil is a good replacement for regular butter since it doesn’t have a specific taste to it like coconut butter does.

    But I do love real butter too.

  16. I have made these with crispy rice cereal and milk choc chips ( what I had in the house) and everyone who had them LOVED them. At least 10 people asked for the recipe. One friend tried them with corn flakes and the crispy rice was preferred. We also tried with crushed ridged potato chips (good as well) and I want to try this with crushed pretzels to get the sweet/salt combo.
    Lastly-great for holiday giving. Will be using mini muffin tins/liners for those.

  17. I didn’t have the cereal on hand, but I did have oatmeal. Easier recipe for no bake cookies than the one I have been using. And I used 60% cocoa chips. Wonderful taste!!

    I just made these and love them! I mixed in some heath toffee bits (about 1/2 cup) and they really added an extra wow! I didn’t have corn flakes so I used rice krispies and they worked fine.

    1. Crispy rice cereal works well. Cheerios might work too, I haven’t tried them.

    I made these for my son and DIL! They had a baby several weeks ago and I’ve been making food for them. These were quick and easy and tasted great! I love your recipes and bought your cookbook during quarantine – I’ve cooked my way through many of the recipes! ❤️
