We found out the gender of our baby on Friday! It was really hard to keep the secret for a couple of days, but life got busy and I didn’t have time to get a post up until now. Thank you for your patience! Any last minute guesses? Do you think we are having a boy or a girl?

Ok, enough suspense! Drum roll please!

BOY Announcement

We are having another baby BOY! Yahoo! We are both on cloud nine!

I was super nervous going into our appointment. First of all, I wanted to make sure the baby was healthy and everything was progressing along like it should be. I was also nervous about the gender. I know we would be happy with a boy or girl, but to be honest, I REALLY wanted another boy.

I wanted a boy for selfish reasons…I am used to boys, we have everything we need, and I wouldn’t have to learn how to braid hair:) I really wanted a boy for Caleb though. I wanted him to have a brother to play with, grow up with, and to be his best friend.

When we were getting the ultrasound done, my heart was pounding. They kept showing us the heart, brain, spine, etc. I was happy to see all of these things, but I really wanted to know the gender. She finally pointed out the “boy parts” and I screamed with excitement! I was so happy! I looked at Josh and he had the biggest smile on is face. We are both thrilled we are having another boy!

When we got home we surprised Caleb with blue balloons and told him he was going to have a baby brother. He started jumping up and down and yelling yay! I don’t know if he was excited about having a baby brother or the balloons…but either way, he was very happy! 🙂

I know Caleb is going to be a wonderful big brother!

I will go ahead and do a little pregnancy update since we are on the topic!

  • I am 19 weeks, almost half way there! My original due date was August 4th, but at our appointment they pushed it back to August 7th since I am measuring a little small. Who knows when the baby will really come, but we are planning for the first week of August!
  • Cravings-I am still loving Mexican, grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes, and fruit! A few new cravings include: hummus and pita chips, cauliflower (especially my cauliflower tacos), dried mango, Laughing Cow cheese with carrots, popcorn, and Pop Tarts. I haven’t given in to my Pop Tarts craving. I hope it goes away soon! My sweet tooth is coming back to life. I am so happy I am loving cookies again:)
  • Aversions-still mint gum, strong onions, and bagels. I think I overdosed at the beginning of my pregnancy. I don’t want to see another bagel for a long time!
  • My nausea is better, but I still have rough days. The nights are usually the worst.
  • I am working out 5-6 days a week. I do the elliptical for 35 minutes, 50 push ups on the ball, hand weights, plank, leg lifts, wall sit, etc. most days. I tried running once, but it was hard. I had Caleb, the stroller, and ran uphill…so that didn’t make it easy. I hope to try again soon! I have also been walking with Caleb when it is nice out. I exercised up until the day I had Caleb so I hope I can do the same with this pregnancy.
  • I’ve gained about 7 pounds so far. All of my clothes still fit, but I definitely have a baby bump!
  • I am sleeping better…when I am not staying up late to watch Nashville:)
  • My back is starting to hurt, but thank goodness Josh has been giving me daily massages! It really helps.
  • I know we just found out that we are having a boy, but names are already stressing me out. We both agreed on Caleb so it was easy, but we are struggling this time around. Any boy name suggestions? We would love to hear them!

Overall, this pregnancy is going well! I just hope the nausea leaves soon and leaves for good.

We are super excited for our baby boy to arrive! I hope the next few months go quickly!

Get the best of the best!

  1. Congrats!!! So happy for you guys! And how wonderful for Caleb to have a baby brother. And to grow up close in age to his brother. And glad to hear your nausea is doing better than it was. Thanks for sharing your news 🙂

  2. Wonderful news!!! Hmmm…. of course, hearing it would be a girl would be wonderful news too! I had 3 of each. The boys were much easier to raise and they are very kind sons to their mother and father now, but the girls, being more complicated were harder to raise, but now they are my friends. Enjoy your wonderful, fabulous, precious children, on good days and bad, knowing that them living with you is extremely temporary. Live for no regrets. Take care of yourself first so that you can take care of your family. Don’t run faster than you have strength. You are not indestructible. God bless you all! So happy for you!!!

  3. Our sons name is Casey and he turns 21 in May. I have always loved Casey’s name because its different but not bizarre! 🙂

  4. YAYYY! So happy for you. This was our list of boy names:
    Branson
    Jax
    Max
    Tyler
    Travis
    Hunter
    Riley
    Cooper
    Parker
    Kyle

  5. So exciting! We are on about the same pregnancy schedule (I’m due August 1), and I just found out I’m having a boy, too! I love following along with your pregnancy as I’m experiencing my own. Anyway, congrats!

  6. I love the name Ryder… If I was to have another baby (I have 5 now plus almost 2 fra babies) I would use that name!! My daughter is having a boy and she didn’t like it… I like different names… I have a Justin, Neeley, Brayden, Chase and Danica…. Good luck with the name search and congrats!!!

  7. Hi! 🙂
Congrats on the blog, and on the beby boy coming soon!!
How about Cedric? I find its meaning to be really nice. And it pairs nice with Caleb… Caleb & Cedric. Sounds cool!
    All the best*

  8. Our top two boy names were Cole and Caleb. We named our son Cole but Caleb will be a contender if we have another boy. Congrats!

  9. Awww, I’m so happy for you guys! I absolutely love litte boys too!
Caleb is the cutest little boy ever and his name fits him perfectly.
Now you’re gonna have a double-dose of cuteness in the house!
Asks Caleb what he thinks about names. I’m sure he’ll have some interesting ideas!

  10. Congratulations! So happy for you that you’re having another boy 🙂 When I was pregnant last year, we came up with a boy’s name quickly – Connor Michael – only to find out later we were having a girl. It took us a little while longer to find a girl’s name but we named our little girl Teagan Riley. Funny enough, it’s not that uncommon. I hope you find one you like soon – don’t stress out too much about it.

  11. Congratulations, my DH and I could not agree on boy names, luckily we had a girl. I loved the name Eric, but also Christopher, and Michael were other names I liked.

  12. Congratulations on your second son! I got weird during the pregnancy with my son and wanted to name him Magnus, like a big burly Swedish strongman I’d seen on TV pulling a fully-loaded semitrailer with his ear or some such thing . . . I blame hormones.
My spouse talked me out of it.
With my daughter I wanted to name her Ingrid, and the spouse learned a thing or two, so he countered with Eileen (which I really really didn’t want, no offense to Eileens everywhere, but it’s an Irish name and she’s got no Irish blood) before we compromised.
Good luck, you’ve got plenty of time, rest, relax and enjoy!

  13. Congrats! Our boys are almost exactly 2.5 years apart and they have always been the best of friends, even now at 17.5 and almost 20! You guys will have such a great time with your two boys! Take care of yourself and enjoy!

  14. Congrats! If we can have a second (maybe too high risk) I’m hoping for another boy too. I’m like you that I’m used to boys and intimidated by the teenage girl and mom relationship. I wasn’t exactly the nicest daughter when I was a teenager.

  15. Congratulations! My boys are 21 months apart, and are best friends! Their names are Collin and Aiden.<3

  16. Such wonderful news, I am so very happy for all 3 of you. I am a Grandmother of 2 amazing Grandsons – Caleb (3 yrs.) and Nathan (1 yr.) The only problem is that I live in GA and they live in Spokane, WA – wish we lived closer to each other so that I could spoil them more, lol.

  17. Peter is by far my favorite name. I also like Jesse. Keep in mind the baby will have the name forever so if you give him something unusual, it may be cute when he is little but he will have it as a man.

  18. Wonderful news. Caleb will have a little buddy to play with. I’m so happy for the both of you. Take care and have a Great Day!

  19. Congratulations! I have a two year old son named Wyatt, so that name is close to my heart. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE having a boy!

  20. Congrats!! Aren’t boys great! I do love having a girl too but my little dude is such a snuggle bug. Good luck on the name, definitely make lists and maybe you guys will have a match in there somewhere 😉 I am pretty partial to Judd though!

  21. Also, make sure you like the baby’s first name with your last name. I used to design baby announcements and people used to try out the first names with the middle names. So Joshua Michael (Schlecter) became Josh Schlecter, which sounds like Jah Schlecter. And Liam Francis (Mckee) is Liam McKee which sounds like Lia McKee.

  22. Our due date is 8/11, but it will be my second C-section, so we’ll go the week of 8/4! We find out on Monday what we’re having.

  23. Congrats on another baby boy!!! Caleb is going to love having a little brother to play with.

  24. I know exactly the feeling of ‘hoping’ for a boy because you are already settled into the boy stuff. We had twins – both boys, so we pregnant with #3 I was hoping for another for all the same reasons you mentioned. (We now have three boys!)

We have Gabriel Sterling, Grayson Callahan, and Taylor Reece. Other names still on our list were – Sebastian, George, and Corban.

    Good luck!

  25. YAY for two boys!!!! It is the BEST!!!!! Shortly after finding out I was having a second boy my cousin said that giving Asher a little brother is the best gift you can give a boy. It has always stuck with me and watching them together every day is a gift. Congrats!!

  26. My grandson’s name is Turnner. He is five years old and
a handsome little guy. It’s kinda of a different name.

  27. Congratulations!! How exciting. May the rest of your pregnancy go smoothly!
And Joshua fits with Caleb, at least biblically!

  28. Congrats!!

I’ve always loved Micah, Cullen, and Colton. Good luck – I’m sure you’ll pick something wonderful! Don’t stress 🙂

  29. YAY! I am SO happy for you both (three)! So thrilled to hear that everyone is healthy, too! xo

  30. Congratulations, another boy, how exciting. I love the names of my grandsons, so I suggest Wyatt or Coleton.

  31. Oh what joy . . . two little boys to fill your days with non-stop curiosity, activity and mischief! I love real boy names like: Gus, Van, Jacob, Zach or Max. Spencer, Grant and Tyler are more traditional, but great for grown-up names. To this day my husband and his brother call each other “Joe” because it was a great “cowboy” name. Happy name search!!

  32. Congrats to you and your family! Caleb will love being a big brother. As a mom of boys, we had the hardest time coming up with boy names. Girl names were early to pick. We ended up with Brennan & Hayden. Hayden was going to be Hayden whether he was a boy or girl, which was kind of fun. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

  33. Congrats! I too have 2 boys and love it, especially now they are teens….sooo easy compared to my friends dealing with girl drama!
We had a hard time naming our boys, our criteria was we wanted a formal name that we could shorten, we went with Samuel(Sam) and Nicholas (Nick) that way they could choose which version they like 🙂
    Enjoy your pregnancy!

  34. Congratulations! All three of my boys are playmates and best friends! Names… Micah, Eli, Isaac, Cannan, Canon, Noah, and Josiah were some of my faves. Good luck!

  35. Congratulations!!! I am a mom of three boys and although I would have loved to have had a girl, I am quite happy having all boys. Much easier, although not quite as many hand me downs, since my boys were rough little ones, but they are a joy! My boys are not little anymore, 19, 15 and 10. Congrats again and I wish you the best on picking out a name.

  36. Congrats! That’s so exciting! My favorite boy names are Eli and Avi… but I have no baby boy to give them to, haha!

  37. I LOVE the name Caleb. I wanted our 2nd to be Caleb, but my hubs talked me into McKay. We have three boys now – Gavin and Jonah are the other two. If we have a 4th boy then I’m rooting for Caleb again!

  38. Congratulations! I too have two boys. They are grown now. We have three grandsons and four granddaughters. The boys names are Cade, Devon and Aaron. Add these names to your list of possibilities.

Good luck with the nausea. It usually goes away in the second tri-mester. Ginger and vitamin B6 were a great help…..also Wheat Thins.

  39. Congrats to you and Josh! It’s very exciting! I’m only 8 wks and this is my first baby, so I’m nervous about everything lol It’s still exciting, though! I hope your nausea goes away. It’s not fun. Take care of yourself! =)

  40. I have 3 boys!! The second time I REALLY wanted another boy too for my oldest and was SO HAPPY the baby was a boy. The 3rd time though, I wanted a little girl but nope, another crazy happy dirty boy. HAHA. CONGRATS Maria!

  41. Congratulations Maria! I am really excited for you! I have 2 little boys (4 & 2) and they are the best of friends. Every day I am so grateful they have each other. You are going to love having 2 boys! 🙂

  42. Congratulations! How exciting! Thanks so much for sharing your news and giving us an update. As for boy names, I love Vinson, Jayden or Kaeden. Take care and best wishes!

  43. Congrats on another boy! So many of my friends are having another boy too! My friends named their boys Waylon and Colton, but we are in Calgary so country names are more popular here.

  44. Congratulations! We just had our second boy this past August and I was so excited as well! I really wanted another boy for the same reasons as you! Much simpler when you have all the boy things already! 😉 Hope you have a great pregnancy!

  45. Congrats! Boys are the best lol…I have Dillon, Kayden, and Ethan. Runner up names were Landon, Aidan, Nolan, Hunter & Riley. Good luck w/ your name game 🙂

  46. WEEE for boys! Congrats to all 3 of you. I have four boys (Riley, Casey, Jax, & Spencer)…and if I had another I would name him Finn. :o) Boys are SO fun!

  47. 24 years ago, i was having Jeremiah Robert, my dad being Robert..,Joshua, Christian, choose an old family name, with maybe a modern twist in spelling, i was going with Aerynn for my daughters middle, never had her, its good for boys, just spelled differently. May your pregnancy go well, easy delivery.. CONGRATS!! Hugs to Caleb, that cutie!

  48. Regarding boy names, since you already have Caleb don’t choose a name with a K or hard C. It would be difficult to always say their names. For instance my friend with 3 girls named them Kylie, Caitlin and Keely. I always messed up their names.

  49. Congratulations! Little boys are the best. But I agree boy names are hard, I enjoyed reading through your comments to see what people suggested!

  50. As a mother with three boys, and a girl I can tell you that they both have thier joys and headaches! Though nothing is more fun than watchign the boys wrestle and roll around like puppies on the floor lol! So glad you are all healthy and happy. I really recommend yoga once or twice a week to help with your back, I have terrible sciatica but, if I do yoga twice a week it keeps it away!

  51. Congrats! We’ll be finding out on Thursday what our baby #2 is.

Good job on not giving in to the pop tart craving but if you’d like to indulge…do you already know about the ones from Nature’s Path? When I need to indulge, I buy a box of these and feel better that they’re at least made with organic ingredients:)

  52. What exciting news! Congratulations – there was nothing better than seeing all my boys become big brothers to a new little brother!

  53. Congratulations on the news, and good luck on the name search. We didn’t find out the sex of our second, and so had a list of names going for both girls and boys. The boy list had only one name we could agree on. Eli will be turning three in May! 🙂

  54. Congratulations!! Hope everything goes smoothly from here on out. As for the Pop Tarts craving, you could make your own. Use a good pie crust and the sweet fillings you’re craving, like brown sugar cinnamon, or apple pie, or other fruit, or, of course, chocolate. Caleb is so cute. He will love having little brother.

  55. Congrats on another sweet and healthy boy, Maria! The name game is lots of fun. I like Colin, Collins, Cole, and Carter!

  56. Congratulations! I’m happy the baby is healthy and that he’s the gender you were hoping for 🙂

I’ve been very fond of the name Jackson (or Jaxson) lately. Good luck with the picking!

  57. Congratulations! As a mother of two mostly-grown sons (the younger is a college junior), I have to say that it’s wonderful! My brother has girls about the same age, & while boys will occasionally have a melt-down, it’s nothing compared to the estrogen-fueled variety. 🙂

As to the name, don’t stress over it. Our son’s name wasn’t settled on until we were on the way to the hospital as we’d already used the one name we’d both liked. For a suggestion, how about Joshua? In the Bible Joshua & Caleb are often mentioned together (but also separately & as individual as your guys will be).

  58. Congrats on having another boy! My family so far can only produce girls!
As for names, it’s fun to look at family history and see what names you like! Ya never know, you might like your great-great-great-grand fathers name! Or a distant uncles name!
One I like is Zander! It’s fun!

  59. So exciting!! Welcome to the “two boys” club! My oldest (Sean) is a few months older than Caleb, and my youngest boy is 2 months old (born New Year’s Eve). Enjoy!!

  60. Congrats you guys! Little boys are so precious, I have 2 boys and they are wonderful company for each other. Best wishes!

  61. congrats! having two boys is awesome! they get a life long friend who knows everything about them.

  62. Congratulations and I hope everything goes well! 🙂
As for boy names… what about Philip/Phillip, Ethan, or Jacob?

  63. Congratulations!!!! Boys are wonderful! As you already know! Him & Caleb will end up being best friends forever 🙂

  64. Awww, congrats Maria! Hope the rest of the pregnancy goes nice and smooth!

  65. How exciting! Boys are so much fun and I’m right there with you on the hair braiding! Love my three boys! Congratulations!

  66. Yay! So happy for you guys! Boys are the best! We have six boys, so here are our names we picked… Austin, Landon, Sage, Kaleb, Caden, and Ryker. We picked one name the same already!

  67. I’m so incredibly happy for you two!! We’ll find out shortly if we’ll be joining you in a family of all boys 🙂 Can’t wait to see you!!

  68. Go to The Baby Name Wizard and find Caleb in the boys names. It give you a list of boys names that are a match for Caleb based on popularity, style of name, sound, etc. Just looked and some of my favorites are there. We always loved Caleb, but it didn’t go with our last name, and we have 3 girls! I also had the book by he same title and read it until it fell apart! I was definitely name obsessed! Congrats!

  69. Congrats! How exciting for Caleb to be a big brother. Here are some ideas for names: Gavin, Dawson, Connor, Aiden.

  70. Such special news!! Coming from a mom of all boys, I have to say it’s perfect! I thought I wanted a little girl, but now can’t imagine my boys not having each other! xoxo

  71. Congrats Maria! Those two will be the best of buddies someday! And I’m like you, a little worried about learning to braid and all the girl drama:) So yay for boys!!

  72. Congratulations, Maria, Josh and Caleb!!!
Such exciting news you’ll be welcoming another little man into the family! Watch out for all that testosterone, Maria!!
    Thrilled for you all!!

  73. Congratulations on your baby boy! I have a son named Spencer and we have received so many compliments on his name. Even my doctor really liked it! We also had a hard time agreeing on a name and this was one of the few that we both liked. That’s one of the biggest challenges so good luck in your search.

  74. Congratulations! I have 4 boys and they are all SO different. Each one makes it new and interesting, for sure. Okay, so I’m craving all the same foods but I’m not pregnant. Ha!

  75. Congratulations! I agree, Boys are wonderful! We have a Caleb too and his cousin is Joshua. They were born close together and both names were kept a surprise until the births. Interesting that Joshua and Caleb were the only 2 in the Bible who escaped Egypt with Moses who were allowed to enter the promised land.

  76. I know the cutest little boy named Bennet and his name makes him even cuter!! No
he is not mine. We chose names after Royalty (Andrew, Stephanie and Alexandra!) some 20 yrs ago!

  77. Congratulations! How fun. It does make it nice to already have the boy stuff already. UNLESS they tell you next ultrasound they’ve spotted a 2nd one in there. LOL Then you get to go shopping. Baby shopping is so much fun.

I’m smiling too because I said it was going to be a boy. 🙂

  78. I have three boys and have loved every minute of being their mom! Very happy for you. Oliver or Jack would be my pick for names.

  79. That’s so awesome! So happy for you! I’m sure Caleb will make the best big brother!

  80. Congratulations Maria! Love boys (I’ve got 4) – so fun for Caleb and you all.

  81. I have been following your website for awhile and just had to share with you that I am on the exact same baby schedule as you! 19 weeks , due August 4 and just found out its a boy! It’s our first and we are so excited:) So happy for your growing family and hope you continue to feel better!

  82. Congrats! I bet Caleb will love having a little brother. Good luck on the name, my son’s name is Robert, but is called Rob or Robbie for short.

  83. Yay congrats! Boys are fun, I have 3 of my own; Jaiden, Keagen and Avery. We finally got our little girl this past September and couldnr be more thrilled. But they are a lot different then boys!

  84. Congratulations! We’re expecting a little baby boy June 1st and I’ve craved the exact same things! My husband laughs because all I want is Mexican food and pancakes. Good for you not giving in to the poptart cravings…..I did and I’ve devoured a couple boxes. I’m praying for you and your family that everything continues to go as smoothly as it has.

  85. Congratulations on the big news! Hope you all are doing well and good luck with the name. That was always the hardest part for us as well!

  86. Congratulations on the healthy pregnancy, and the news of a brother for Caleb!

My little guy is almost 17 months old. The only aversion I had that lasted throughout pregnancy was to anything containing sugar alcohols—sugar-free gums and candies. Other artificial sweeteners didn’t bother me, though.

I bring this up because you mentioned having an aversion to mint gum. That’s what I thought mine was, too, until I ate some sugar-free Werther’s candies that made me feel ill. Have you had problems with cinnamon gum, or other sugar-free products?

Also, August 4 is a great birthday. 😉

  87. Congratulations!! Our first son is named Ezekiel. It’s unique, strong and means “God will strengthen”
Just throwing it out there 🙂
I also love the name Caleb. If we had another boy, that would be my choice 🙂

  88. Interesting story, congratulations. I don’t have children yet, but I’m getting ready for it and I’m really looking forward to it. I read articles, materials, watch lessons. I recently read the difficult but interesting topic of Geopolitical and Gender Identification, I studied this issue on the resource https://studydriver.com/, essays on gender equality are informative, interesting, the topic is really problematic in the modern world, it is well known, so that everyone will interesting to know, good luck!
