“Green Monster” Green Smoothie

Yesterday, I did my usual Body Combat workout and came home and made one of my favorite post-workout snacks – a Green Smoothie. I posted the photo on Instagram and got several requests for the recipe. So today I am sharing my favorite Green Smoothie recipe. Some people call the Green Smoothie a Green Monster, but I like to refer to mine as the Green Goblin:) It is an easy green smoothie recipe that is easy to blend up! You only need a few minutes!

My Green Smoothie Recipe

If you haven’t tried healthy green smoothies before, don’t be afraid. I promise it’s so good! Don’t be frightened by the green color or the spinach. You can’t even taste the spinach. It blends right in with the other flavors, you won’t even know it is there. For my green smoothie recipe, I use:

  • orange
  • frozen banana
  • strawberries
  • spinach
  • Greek yogurt
  • splash of almond milk

I like to use frozen fruit so the smoothie will be thick and cold. If you are using fresh fruit, you can add ice to the blender.

I use plain Greek yogurt because I don’t want added sugars in my smoothie. The fruits will give the smoothie plenty of flavor and sweetness. I blend everything together in our blender and it is ready in no time.

If you want to keep the smoothie dairy-free and vegan, you can use all almond milk instead of the Greek yogurt. Almond milk works well too. If I use almond milk, I like to add vanilla protein powder to my smoothie to boost the protein.

You can use kale instead of spinach in this green smoothie recipe.

You can also boost the nutrients by adding in chia seeds, hemp hearts, bee pollen, and ground flaxseed. I will add in a few teaspoons of each.

Healthy Green Smoothies

If you are trying to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet, give this Green Smoothie a go. It is easy to make and is loaded with all kinds of good for you ingredients. I love sipping on a “Green Goblin” after my workouts. This green smoothie recipe is also great for breakfast or a healthy snack. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 large orange peeled and segmented
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 6 frozen strawberries
  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • chia seeds ground flaxseed, hemp hearts, or bee pollen (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1. Put all of the ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.
  2. Note-Make sure you use a powerful blender.

  1. I tried it and was very uncertain it would taste good, but it was yummy! The only thing I did different was use frozen strawberries because it is what I had. Thanks!

  4. I was wondering how many calories this has in it ?? I’m a breastfeeding mom trying to go healthy all the way but need to make sure I’m getting enough calories for my milk supply!

  5. Tried it and it was really good! My boyfriend liked it too and he’s super picky about everything!!! Totally saving this one. I just drank it after I made it though so it wasn’t like a cold thick icy smoothie consistency.. It was just like a chilled juice. Thanks for posting!!

  7. Please will be going to the big city next week and want to buy a blender
    combination food processor, my blender is ready to give up the ghost. the
    Veggies and fruits are too much for it even if has metal blades.
    Any ideas on purchasing a good blender for veggie smoothies.
    I can’t afford a Vita-Mix, our budget
    couldn’t stand it. Any ideas out there. Liz

  8. Smoothies are great. For a post workout shake, you need a lot more protein. Try adding more yogurt or even a scoop of a yummy protein powder you like. I use chocolate protein powder and it mixes well with almost anything, even my spinach or kale that I’m using. If you do a smoothie with super healthy ginger or lemon, I would prob skip the chocolate protein powder tho.

  9. Tried this one this morning and I love it. We live near a bunch of cherry orchards and have an over abundance of frozen dark cherries to I usually use cherries where ever smoothie recipes call for strawberries and they are delicious. Cherries are a little sweeter than strawberries and it completely covers the taste of the spinach!

  10. I make green smoothies for me and my teenage girls every morning. I do frozen mixed berries, a banana, spinach, parsley, avocado and water. For my girls I omit the parsley. Better energy boost than coffee, and healthier 🙂

  11. I make a smoothie similar to this all the time. Although all my fruit is frozen. Since I am using the frozen fruit is it okay to leave out the ice?

  13. I made my first smoothie yesterday and it was wonderful!! Baby spinach, greek yogurt, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and vanilla protien. I refrigerated the leftovers to have for breakfast this morning and it was terrible!!! I couldn’t even finish it. Anyone know why this might be? Thanks!

  14. Since raw spinach blocks the absorption of calcium and iron, would it be better to lightly steam the spinach first?

  17. I had to add 1/2 cup of diet ocean spray cranberry juice. Other than that…ver very good!
    With the 1/2 cup of diet ocean spray, the calorie count came out to 195 calories. 28 grams of sugar, but hat came from the natural fruits. Thank you!

  20. If you freeze the banana (we usually get the reduced ones and wrap them in plastic wrap and stick them in the freezer so they are ready when we need them {peeled}) and freeze the strawberries..you might not have to add ice which would make it creamier!!

My husband got me a small bella turbo blender.One of the first smoothies I created was this same one..minus the ice, and instead of orange..I used pineapple chunks.I disguised the green color in a red plastic tinted cup, and got my 12 yr old, very picky son to try it. He loved it..and at the very end.. I showed him the rest of the batch was green. Meaning..there was spinach in it..lol..he was suprised, and said he would never have tried it, if he had known the color.lolIt was delicious!
