Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Hazelnut Cookie Bars-I love everything about these cookie bars!

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Hazelnut Cookie Bar Recipe on twopeasandtheirpod.com These bars are AMAZING!

Today is my birthday and we are celebrating with my all-time favorite cookie bars, Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Hazelnut Cookie Bars. Most people eat cake on their birthday, but I eat cookies. I wouldn’t turn down a piece of birthday cake, but I always prefer cookies.

These cookie bars have all of my favorite things in one recipe-brown butter, chocolate, hazelnuts, and sea salt. I could easily eat the entire pan by myself…and I just might. It is my birthday and calories don’t count on birthdays…or when you are pregnant. So yeah, I am definitely eating the entire pan. Sorry, I was going to share with you, but you can make your own pan:)

I am 32 years old today! 32!! How did that happen? I love birthdays and I am not afraid of getting older. I actually think life improves with age. So bring it on 32! I am ready for you!

Today I am sharing my 32 birthday wishes. Yes, I get 32. It’s my birthday so I get to make up the rules and one wish isn’t enough! I didn’t make any New Year’s resolutions, but I am making wishes for my year! My wishes aren’t in any particular order, I just hope they all come true:) They are a mixture of wishes, wants, goals, and desires!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda. Set aside.
  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat and continue to cook, swirling occasionally, until butter turns golden brown, Skim foam from top, and remove from heat. Pour into a bowl to stop the cooking, leaving any burned sediment behind; let cool.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix the browned butter and sugars together until combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract and mix until smooth. Slowly add the dry ingredients and mix on low, just until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped hazelnuts.
  • Pour cookie dough into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with the spatula. Sprinkle cookie bars very lightly with sea salt. Bake cookie bars for 25-30 minutes or until the top of the bars are light golden brown and the edges start to pull away from the pan. Cool bars on a wire rack to room temperature. Cut bars into squares and serve.
Keywords brown butter, chocolate

Your bars look so good. I love browned butter and the melty choc chips are the best! pinned

  2. Yum~these sound amazing. Happy Birthday! With a start this delicious, I bet you’ll achieve all those great goals this year.

  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARIA! I love all your goals! Especially to tune out social media and tune into family and to cook for fun, and not take pictures of everything. I should adopt those goals too.
Theses bars look crazy awesome and melty and chewy…perfect!

  4. I have a lot of the same wishes and goals as you for my year. (Although Hawaii is on my wish list every year and hasn’t happened yet…someday!) Reading your list I was thinking we are a lot alike, but I also realize we are at the same stage in life and young moms typically want and think about similar things. I hope you get everything on your wish list this year! Enjoy your cookie bars! (They look incredible, by the way)

  5. Happy birthday, Maria! It is just like you to post a scrumptious cookie treat for your birthday and your readers. 🙂 So sweet! I’m absolutely nutty about any dessert treat with hazelnuts and chocolate. These look phenomenally good and need to be made ASAP! Wishing you a fabulous year in 2014. May all your hopes and dreams come true! xo

  6. Have a wonderful day! And year 🙂

Those are all such great goals. The photo goal reminds me of the jim gaffigan bit about everybody having computers full of pictures, instead of albums. I loved leafing through old albums my mom and nana had. I really should start printing more things, too.

Those bars look so gooey in the middle. Perfect with a frosty glass of milk.

  7. Happy Birthday! 32 is so young!! The thirties are the best years, enjoy them!!! Love your goals and the cookie bars!

  8. Happy Birthday Maria! Have a wonderful day. I’m with you. I’m not much of a cake person unless it’s ice cream or cheesecake – I like filling and icing. And I love cookies. I’ll be turning twice your age this November, so I’ve collected lots of cookie recipes over the years!

  9. Maria!! Happy Happy Birthday! Your cookie bars are to die for, hope you have a sweet day with your family! xoxo

  10. Happy Birthday, Maria! Cookie bars are the perfect way to celebrate. Love your list of goals and wishes.

  13. Happy Birthday!! Hope you have an awesome day and great year, Maria!!

These bars look so good!! Love that melty chocolate!

  14. 32 is a great year Maria 🙂 In fact, I think you are right- every year further in to the 30’s I get, it is better and better! I love that you put together a list- I think I will start doing that- it is a gentle reminder that we want the best for ourselves and our family. Happiest Birthday Wishes! (and these are some amazing looking bars!)

  15. Such a great list! Happiest of birthdays again! You definitely deserve to enjoy the entire pan yourself 🙂

  16. Sending you HUGE birthday hugs; I’m a February baby, too! Miss you and hope you have a wonderful day.
    Hugs from NYC.

  17. Happy Birthday Maria! I hope you enjoy a day filled with sweet treats and lots of love from family and friends.

    Ps. these bars look amazING.

  18. I’m sure your comment about wanting a baby boy has the best intentions (maybe you’d like that special brother bond for your son, I don’t know), but it makes me feel a bit queasy. At a time where Indian and Chinese baby girls are aborted for their gender, can we just agree that a healthy baby, rather than a boy baby, is “preferable”?

In any case, I came to your site for the cookie bars and am looking forward to baking them! Thank you!

  19. Happy Birthday! I have been reading your blog for a couple of years – love it! These cookie bars look great – I make your meyer lemon pudding often and my family and I love it! Enjoy your day!

  20. Aww HAPPY BIRTHDAY Maria!! I hope this is the start of an epic year – that is one heck of a great list!! Are you sure I can’t share these bars with you? SIGH, okay I’ll make my very own. And I won’t share either 🙂 SCORE!

  21. Happy birthday, Maria!! Hope you have a fabulous day and a wonderful year ahead. These bars just might be the most perfect way ever to celebrate!

  22. Oozy, oozy chocolate, be still my beating heart! Happy birthday! It’s nice to hear someone excited about getting older(/getting more wishes 😉 ). I hope 32 turns out to be a fantastic year!

  23. It’s my birthday too! But I’m considerably older than you are. I just recently found your blog and I love the recipes I’ve tried. I wish you continued success and happiness

  24. I made these tonight! I halved the recipe and did an 8×8, since I am not pregnant and it’s not my birthday and I would want to eat the whole pan too! I also left out the nuts since I don’t like them in my baked goods. They were delicious. Thanks for the recipe, and happy birthday!

  25. Happy Birthday Maria!!! I hope you had a wonderful day with your boys. I love your 32 wishes. I hope all of them come true 🙂 these chocolate hazelnut bars look amazing!! Your salted caramel chocolate chip bars are my favorite and I can’t wait to try this variation!!

I’m dying to try this. I just love bars.

  29. Happy One-Day-Later Birthday! Most people just thinking about receiving on their birthday and you were wonderful to give a gift of a delicious looking recipe! Thank you! And I hope all your birthday wishes come true–esp. #8!

  30. Sold-these look SO GOOD! Happy Birthday (I’ll be 32 this year as well) and I hope that you have another wonderful year!

  31. Maria,
    Happy birthday young lady!
I’m with you–cookies over cake any day of the week, though I’d never turn down a piece someone fixed for me. Good idea to plan breaks from photographing your food–I did that the other week with a pizza and it rocked. How liberating!

  32. I don’t have sea salt-just kosher salt and regular salt. Which should I use in the flour mixture? Is the amount the same in the recipe when using these salts?

  33. These Cookie Bars are OUTSTANDING!!!!! My sweetheart only does gluten, I replaced flour with my favorite gluten free blend “Cup4Cup” We will surely do this one again soon

    Sat Nam

  34. Happy Belated Birthday! All your wishes are great! I’ll actually be 57 on Sunday and I’m going to treat myself to your soft ginger snap cookies! Cookies are my favorite sweet and I’ve made lots of yours! Your recipes always turn out good! I love your pudding cookies! I remember when I was 32…seems like yesterday! Unlike you I haven’t been particularly fond of aging, but your words have inspired me. Lots of changes as a women aging but I’m choosing to do it gracefully and victoriously! Thanks for all the sweet recipes and I pray all your wishes come true!

  35. Ah Happy Birthday! I hope that you have a wonderful day. I simply couldn’t resist these delicious brown butter chocolate chip hazelnut bars. Yummy! Pinned ready to make. Love your list of goals that you want to achieve. Good for you. Really made me giggle that the exercising more and eat more cookies were next to each other. Hope you have a fab day, safe delivery of your new baby and a wonderful 32nd year.
