Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or Silpat baking mat or parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and sea salt.
  • With a mixer, cream butter and sugars together until smooth. Add in eggs, one at a time. Next, add in vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  • Gradually add flour mixture and beat until just combined. Stir in the pretzel pieces and chocolate chips.
  • Form the cookie dough into balls, about 2 tablespoons of dough. Place a caramel piece in the center of the dough ball, making sure the cookie dough completely covers the caramel. This will prevent the caramel from oozing out in the oven. Place on prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Sprinkle cookies with sea salt.
  • Bake cookies for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes. Transfer to a wire cooling rack and cool completely.

Love the sweet & salty! I am normally not a chocolate cookie person, but these were delicious! It reminded me of a brownie in a cookie. Would these do well baked as a brownie instead?

My cookies stayed a bit risen and didn’t spread like the picture, which was why I didn’t give this 5 stars. What wasn’t I doing? Should I have flattened them before, is there a technique I am missing? Anyhow, would make these again for any chocolate lovers! Thanks for the great recipe!

    1. Sounds like too much flour. Did you pack your flour? I always fluff my flour, spoon it into the cup and then level. Next time, reduce by 1/4 cup to be safe. That should help. Glad you liked the cookies!

I love these cookies and so does everyone in my family. I have been making them for a couple years now. I have altered it and not used the Caramels. I use caramel chips or Hershey’s salted caramel chips that I buy in the chocolate chip isle. They are super yummy!!!!

  3. Absolutely delicious!! Definitely the perfect cookie for a chocolate lover! A few things to consider : 2 tbsp. of dough with a caramel inside makes for an enormous cookie. My cookies didn’t spread out, like other reviewers, and were a bit stiff – which made for the caramel to remain hard and solid inside. About halfway through, I tried it with about half the dough and half the caramel and they were better. Just made for a large, stiff cookie. Not to mention, I had to double the cook time to make sure they were cooked all the way through… Although it tasted GREAT! Would love to know how to make these so they look like the picture – they’re definitely delicious!
