Millions of peaches, peaches for me! I feel like we have millions of peaches, thanks to our trees. We’ve picked SO many peaches. I have been eating at least one every day, sometimes two. I made a batch of peach salsa, peach butter, baked peach oatmeal, but that still didn’t make a dent in our peach supply.

To use up a few more peaches, I baked up a batch of Peach Scones. I really, really love a good scone! If you’ve tried my strawberry, blueberry, or raspberry scones you know my scones are perfection and these peach scones are right up there with the rest.

I love making these scones when peaches are in season. You can’t beat a ripe, juicy peach, especially when you add them to buttery scone dough. Yum, a delightful summer treat!

The scones are sweet, tender, soft, and the honey vanilla glaze is the perfect finishing touch.

How to Make Peach Scones

It might seem like a fancy thing to bake, but scones are actually pretty easy! Here are a few tips to help you make perfect scones every time!

  • Make sure you use COLD butter to make scones. I leave my butter in the fridge right until it’s time to use it. You can also put the butter in the freezer for a bit if your butter is too warm.
  • Using your hands or a pastry blender, work quickly to cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients. Go as fast as you can–you don’t want the butter to start melting! Mix until you’ve got a coarse meal. A few larger lumps of butter are just fine!
  • In a separate small bowl whisk 1 cup of heavy cream and the vanilla, then pour it over the flour/butter mixture. Stir it with a spatula, but only until a dough begins to form.
  • Gently fold in the peaches. They will be juicy so don’t over mix or the dough will get soggy.
  • Sprinkle a bit of flour onto a clean counter top and move the dough there. Knead it by hand until it forms a ball, but no longer! Just like with the mixing, we don’t want to overwork the dough.
  • Pat the ball of dough into a circle about 1-inch tall. Use a sharp knife to cut it into 8 triangles, just like you’d cut a pizza!
  • Put the scones on the prepared baking sheet and put them in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes so the butter can get cold before baking. This will prevent the scones from spreading while baking.
  • Brush the scones them with a bit of heavy cream.
  • Bake in your preheated 400 degree F oven for 18-23 minutes or until the scones are golden brown.
  • They’ll look a little bit golden brown on the bottoms and edges. Leave them on the baking sheet to cool for 5 minutes before scooting them over to a wire cooling rack.
  • The finishing touch? A delicious honey vanilla glaze! While the scones cool, whisk confectioner’s sugar, honey, vanilla, and milk until it’s smooth, then drizzle it over the cooled scones. It’s heaven on a plate!

What to Serve with Peach Scones

Breakfast is about to get INCREDIBLE. Try one of these delicious breakfast recipes to go with your warm, fresh scones!

How to Store

These scones are best the day they are made, but you can keep them in an airtight container for up to 2 days on the counter. If you live in a humid climate, you can loosely cover them so they don’t get too moist in the container.

You can also freeze scones. You can freeze the scone dough, after they have been cut into triangles. Store in a freezer container or freezer bag for up to 2 months. You can also freeze baked scones. Let the scones cool completely and freeze in a freezer container or freezer bag for up to 2 months.

These scones make the perfect afternoon snack. Sit down and enjoy a special sweet treat. Serve with tea, grab a good book, or just ponder the good things in life. These peach scones are guaranteed to make any day a little more “peachy.” ENJOY!

Ingredients

For the scones:

For the honey vanilla glaze:

Instructions

  • Line a large baking sheet with a Silpat baking mat or parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Using a pastry blender or your hands, quickly cut the cold butter into the flour mixture. Mix until mixture resembles coarse meal, with a few larger butter lumps.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together 1 cup heavy cream and vanilla extract. Pour the liquid ingredients over the flour mixture and stir with a spatula until dough begins to form. Don’t over mix. Gently fold in the peaches.
  • Transfer dough to a floured countertop and gently knead dough by hand just until it forms a ball. Don’t overwork the dough. Form scones by patting the dough into a 1-inch thick circle. Use a sharp knife to cut the scones into 8 triangles.
  • Place scones on prepared baking sheet and place them in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Remove the scones from the freezer. Using a pastry brush, brush scones lightly with the additional heavy cream. Bake for 18 to 23 minutes, or until scones are golden brown on the bottom and around the edges. Let the scones cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes and then transfer to a wire cooling rack.
  • While the scones are cooling, make the honey vanilla glaze. In a small bowl, whisk the confectioners’ sugar, honey, vanilla, and milk together until smooth.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones. Serve.

Notes

The scones are best the day they are made, but you can keep them in an air-tight container for up to 2 days.

  7. I love making scones, and just made some plain buttermilk ones this morning for all of my colleagues at the office. But I love adding fresh fruit for a little added moisture and texture. Peaches are perfect, especially this time of year. I have bookmarked the recipe for next time!

  8. This is a great recipe to add to our list for peaches. Thanks! We are making them for breakfast tomorrow.

  9. These are really pretty scones. I’m wishing I had more of our neighbors peaches right now- they were really good this year.

Love the color of that jam too!

  10. These sound delicious!!! So do your lemon glazed berry ones ๐Ÿ™‚ Ahh I wish my neighbors had a peach tree- the peaches I keep finding aren’t so good. ;/

  11. These scones look lovely! I’m going to the orchard to pick apples this weekend, and I might have to grab a few peaches if they still have any left (it’s late in the season for peaches here) just so I can give this recipe a try!

  12. Oooh, best idea ever! And so fitting for my scone/biscuit obsession! I might have to pick up some peaches at the grocery store this weekend. Yum!

  13. I just have not had enough Utah peaches this year. How luck that you’ve had tons. The scones are a great idea.

  14. My second box of peaches came today! Hooray! I have been on the lookout for days now. I would love to make some scones for the boys with them.

  15. These sound delicious. I love the cinnamon and almond you’ve added. Peach time is just wonderful! I’m headed down to Payson on Saturday and can’t wait to pick some up ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Wow, these look amazing! Dessert without the guilt. Although, come to think of it, they would be excellent in a bowl with a few more peaches on top, warmed up, and a scoop of ice cream. Mmmmmmm….

    1. I have had some success grating the cold butter into the flour mixture, interested to see what Maria has to say also

  17. I love scones but I’ve never had peach scones. These look delicious! I’ll have to try them! What beautiful photos!

  18. Ooooooh, are those beautiful scones! These deserve to be made asap, so a trip to the farmstand is in order . Gorgeous!

  19. We barely ever have peaches in our house, so when we got some, I knew I wanted to make peach scones with a cinnamon sugar flavor, and I came across your site. These turned out great and very moist! One of the only changes I made was to use 3/4 cup milk and 1/3 cup melted butter (cooled) in replace of the heavy cream. I used 3/4 cup of this mixture in the scones and brushed the rest on top. I also used 1/2 tsp cinnamon in the scones, because I love cinnamon in baked goods. Thanks for the recipe!

  20. Made them this morning…the batter was super moist and very messy to work with. I had to add 1 cup extra flour to be able to knead the dough and roll out. I added 1/4 tsp nutmeg and 1 tsp vanilla for extra flavor. Didn’t use glaze bc we don’t like extra sugar. Good flavor but doughy

    1. Yes, exact thing happened to me. I took a scone making class and should have stuck to my tried and true recipe. One of the most important things in scone making is to add as little liquid as possible and when adding fruit, add even less liquid. Otherwise they turn out like a peach cake or muffin.

  21. Made this today but used half buttermilk and cream and nectarines instead of peaches. Still delicious! Once they cool I may try some of that glaze but I was too hungry to wait this Sunday morning. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Maria! I made these as a thank you gift for our neighbors who looked after our house on a recent trip out of town, and they COULD NOT stop raving about them! She begged for the recipe and is making a batch for her family who is visiting this weekend. Thanks so much for making us the hit of the neighborhood with this great recipe!

  23. 3 stars
I couldnโ€™t work with the dough without adding at least a cup of extra flour. Definitely modify the amount of liquid used in this recipe .

  24. 3 stars
More like a muffin or cake than a scone. The most important thing with scones is not to add too much liquid. The amount of cream in this recipe should be decreased, especially since the peaches add in lots of moisture. My gut told me this was too moist and it was. Scones are unique because they are a bit dryer and crumbly, these were not.

  25. 5 stars
Light and delicate, quick and easy, delicious!! We tested three peach scone recipes and this one came out on top!!

  26. Hi! Is it possible to use frozen peaches and peach schnapps in the scone recipe? Really wanting to try it out. Thoughts. Thank you!

  27. Love these scones! We are having company over in a few weekends and would love to make them; however, they are Gluten-Free. Do you happen to have a good alternative to make this into Gluten-Free scones?

    1. You can use gluten-free flour. I like Cup4Cup. Use the same amount of flour.

  28. 5 stars
I have been on a scone kick for some time. These were absolutely perfect!!! I need to cut my peaches a bit smaller, but all in all, fantastic!!!!! Thank you! I’m going to try blueberry next ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. 5 stars
These were delicious! Not too sweet so the glaze is perfect. I had very ripe peaches and they made the dough very wet and sticky, had to add more flour while kneading but they turned out great!

  30. 5 stars
Superb! No problems following the recipe exactly. I didnโ€™t find the dough too moist at all. We are scarfing them down right now. Thank you!

  31. 5 stars
This was my first attempt at making scones. I used a combination fresh and canned peaches. It made the dough a little too wet so I added a little more flour. Came out perfect and delicious. My husband loves them. Thank you

I made scones per recipe with the following exceptions: 1) Used frozen peaches as itโ€™s March and fresh peaches arenโ€™t available. 2) Used frozen butter and grated with a box grater then incorporated using a pastry knife. 3) Used a full tsp of cinnamon as one other person mentioned as. 4) I sprinkled coarse sugar on top of the scones after brushing with the cream. 5) I put in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes rather than the freezer.
The scones were delicious although not much of a peach flavor. Most likely as I used frozen rather than fresh peaches. When I make again Iโ€™ll try letting the peaches thaw first as the juices may help add more flavor. Iโ€™ll also try with fresh peaches once in season.

Currently baking a batch of these scones. I’m disappointed by how wet the batter is after adding the peaches. I allowed the peaches to sit and drain while I prepped other ingredients. What a mess, but hopefully all that extra juice just helps add extra flavor.

  34. I made the peach scones today 8/23
So good, with this being the season for peaches I will definitely be making them again. I enjoy making scones, so much better than going to a bakery.

  35. 5 stars
I’ve started leaving comments because I thoroughly appreciate when others do. These are amazing. They are moist and buttery and the glaze makes them over the top. If only scones lasted longer so I didn’t have to eat them all in one day!

    1. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. I am glad you loved the scones.

  36. 5 stars
These were the absolute best. I had frozen fresh peaches from our tree that I wanted to use. Have to admit I did change the glaze a bit. I added a few diced peaches to it, added cream and water instead of milk to make glaze and lastly my honey was ginger honey. Sooo good.
Wanted to add a photo also but donโ€™t see where I can do that

  37. Can you freeze scones after you mix so you donโ€™t have to eat them in one day? Iโ€™ve done that with blueberry scones but was unsure with cut up peaches. Thanks

  38. 4 stars
Made these scones today using nectarines instead of peaches. I found the dough to be quite sticky prior to adding the fruit. Added some additional flour and that seemed to work. Very good otherwise.

  39. Tried this new recipe with fresh picked peaches. Husband read 3cups of cut up peaches. The dough was dry, so I added some more cream. I think hubby added more because the dough was very wet & sticky. i added quite a bit more flour. The dough was still fairly wet still. The scones are in the oven now & we will see how they come out.
